Sheriff's Office Makes Arrest in Theft Case

On Saturday, April 11, 2015, while conducting follow-up Deputy Gallagher received a call from the victim stating an unknown male had called him and returned the majority of his stolen property, which included a wallet, three social security cards, and a Ruger 10/22 long rifle from a theft which occurred sometime between the hours of 7:30 PM, Thursday, April 9, 2015, and 7:30 AM, Friday, April 10, 2015.

 

Deputies obtained the identity of the caller and arranged a meeting with him.  When asked how he came to be in possession of the property he returned, he stated "my son stole it and I wanted to do the right thing and return it."

 

Deputies were lead to the whereabouts of the suspect and when questioned, the suspect confessed to stealing the items from the car and using the victims credit card.

 

Jacob Montoya, DOB 03/01/94, was booked into the Criminal Justice Center on April 11, 2015 on the charges of:

 

Identity Theft (Felony 4)

Unauthorized Use of A Financial Transaction (Felony 5)

First Degree Criminal Trespass (Felony 5)

False Information to a Pawn Broker (Felony 6)

Theft (Misdemeanor 2)
